Tossing, chopping & shovelling mark day one
The weather cleared and the sun shone as the Hilux New Zealand Rural Games began in Queenstown.
Big crowds enjoyed national championships for sheep dog trials and coal shovelling, the South Island Gumboot Throwing Championship, the ANZAXE Trans Tasman Wood Chopping Championships plus giant kilted warriors battling for the trans Tasman Highland Games ‘Heavies’ Competition and all the fun of Jetstar Kids ‘n Country, Wild Buck Challenges and the Agri-Sports Challenge, a feature event of the 2015 ANZ Young Farmer Contest.
Day one of the Games finishes with the Queenstown Summer Concert featuring the Topp Twins, James Reid of the Feelers and headliner, Jody Direen.
Here are some photo highlights of the day. Come and see us tomorrow for more fun and (rural) games!
